Through the years the styles and songs of performers like Big Maybelle, Big Mamma Thornton, Etta James, Besse Smith and Ella Fitzgerald appealed to Harry and fed her dreams of not only being a part of, but standing shoulder to shoulder with the Queens of the retro styles of Jazz, blues, swing, rockabilly and rock n roll.
Harry formed her 7 piece jumpin’ LA style swing band, ‘Harry Deluxe’ in 1999 and has been performing in Western Australia and abroad ever since. Harry’s successful debut at the famed Greenwich Bar led to an invitation to perform at “The WaterShed”, Perth International Arts Festival, for her second only public performance. Soon after that performance she received a nomination for Best Band (2001) at the Rock N Roll Industry Awards.
The Harry Deluxe success resulted in long residencies at the Burswood International Resort Casino, the popular retro style diner The Mustang Bar and appearances at many Jazz and retro music festivals including performing to 10,000 people alongside James Morrison in 2002.
For the past six years Harry has performed at the famed ‘Wintersun’ Festival, and has been invited to perform again in 2011. Wintersun is Australia's leading annual Retro Nostalgia Festival. Featuring almost 1500 Hot Rods, Custom and Classic Cars, more than 100 bands and performers, dancing, movies, and competitions.
Whether you experience Harry as a solo performer, wooing you and making you believe you are her Pin-Up Queen, or you’re on the dance floor jitterbuggin’ to Roll ‘o’ the Dice, one thing is certain – you will never forget the burning halo of red hair under the spotlight, her barrelhouse blues tunes, her soulful ballads or being slain by her ballsy renditions of rough and ready rockabilly tunes.
Harry has a range of influences and loves to perform a range of retro and contemporary styles.
